It's been 2 years

Two years ago yesterday Nanny passed. It's so sad. I know it's crazy but it seemed like Nanny would always be in my life. I can't believe I've gone through two years without her. She may be gone but she is not forgotten. I love you Nanny!!!

Nanny would be very proud of her fig tree this year! Take a look at these!

I wish I had been as close with my grandparents as you obviously were with her. But they lived in California and I almost never saw them. Ah well. So, how do you use fresh figs? I've only ever had them processed...

Thank you all so much! You are all so very sweet. Nanny lived in the same house as us so she helped raise me and my brother and sister. That's why we were so close. We were very lucky.

Bob - We usually just ate the figs like that but you can add them to salads, wrap them in prosciutto or cook with them. They are often paired with pork.

Sorry if I don't always reply this way. I need to get better at this. Oh and by the way, i'm having trouble with my google notifications. Anyone else having this problem?

My notifications are working fine as far as I know. Unfortunately google/blogger don't have a good help center, but I have occasionally found an answer or two there.

What a beautiful fig tree, Michele! I dream of having a fig tree, but it's just too much work for me in this part of the Hudson Valley. How do you manage to produce such fruit in Jersey? Do you bury it in winter?

That fig tree is a living memorial to your Nanny; I'm sure she's smiling down on you from above! :)

My kadota fig tree did not do well this year at all.
You have nice memories of your grandmother, as do mine. She would love that you have a blog named for her!
(hey, Gennaro is very good looking! wowie!).

Michele it touches my heart that you were so close to your Nanny. I'm sure she is in heaven as a special angel cooking up a storm for all the other angels.

We ahve a little fig tree in a container ( no soil in my backyard so it was the only way to grow one!) and we loved each and every fig it delivered this season. So delicious!
