Grilled Ham with Pineapple Glaze
I know, a ham steak isn't the prettiest thing to take a picture of but you know how the saying goes! This was a very tasty and satisfying dinner. My fellow bakespacer Carolyn always talks about making these yummy ham steaks and I knew it was something Steve would like to try on the grill. There is no recipe. It's so simple. Make a mixture of brown sugar and pineapple and let the ham steaks marinate it. Throw them on the grill with some fresh slices of pineapple that have been brushed with the glaze. Allow them to get some nice grill marks on each side and your done. The ham steaks are already cooked so this just takes minutes to make! It actually took me longer to peel and slice the fresh pineapple than it did to cook the ham! I don't think canned pineapple would work because it may be too soft but if you give it a try, let me know! I'd like the glaze to be more noticeable. Anyone know how to do that? The flavor definitely penetrated the meat but didn't make it shiny like a glaze usually is. I will definitely experiment some more and let you know how it goes!

It's hard for me to imagine what it tastes like, because from what I've read, American ham is different from the ham in Italy, you definitely wouldn't grill this one.
And I still have to try grilled pineapple. Such a nice idea.
Don't you just love those quick and easy, tasty meals for during the week when you've been working all day? I've never tried a ham steak. Not sure why. It looks really good! Sorry I can't give you any advice on the "glaze".
Love pineapple glazed ham. If you want the glaze to be more noticeable you could try thickening it with a little cornstarch or more sugar. Or turn the ham several times while it's grilling, brushing it with the glaze each time.
I've grilled canned pineapple before and it works all right, you just have to be careful. It's easiest to cut it into pieces and skewer it. And make sure your grill is clean and oiled, because if it sticks you're screwed.
Looks Terrific!!! YUM-EE!!
The only thing I can think of is to reduce the glaze on the stove so that it's really thick... On oven ham, the water in the glaze has time to evaporate, Cooking on the grill is too fast for much evaporation. Just a guess... ;)
Thanks guys! Those are all great ideas. Next time I will try reducing it, if that doesn't work I will add some cornstarch and make sure to baste it. You guys are the best!
I don't think I've ever had grilled ham but I know I would love it. Looks great with the pineapple.
love this big in the UK with egg and chips he eh
Looks great--I LOVE grilled pineapple!
Ham and pineapple is my fiance's favorite flavor combo. These sound delicious...I just wish I had a grill.
We always end up fighting over the last piece of pineapple, cooked on the grill makes it taste so good! I usually make a sauce in a separate pan, usually a mixture of mustard and a nice fruity jam.
I have never grilled ham before, but it looks amazing, especially with that pineapple!
Kate you can use a grill pan!
Patti - Can you send me that recipe?
I love quick and easy and grilled must give it a nice flavor.
I've been dying to try this!!
